Proder Maschger
The “Maschger” is an old and unique custom and it should show a nuptial society. Every year it is organized from a different club. The “Maschger” are 8 different couples, carried out by men, who go from inn to inn. First there is the “Bajaz”, who wears a coloured vestment and dances to the accordion music. The following couples dance to different music and the last couple, called “Zoch” (old man) and “Pfott” (old woman) is the highlight. They plunk them to the floor and show the fertileness. “Zoch” and “Pfott” wear old and dirty clothes and they have a mask on their heads so that nobody knows their real faces. At the end the “Zoch” and the “Pfott” jump at the viewers and embrace them, the “Zoch” the woman and the “Pfott” the men.
The meaning of this custom it is not clear, some historians say it is a nuptial society and some think that is a death dance.
Whatever means the “Proder Maschger” also has, the fascination is always present.
